Local journalists: What's its future in news?

Today newsrooms around the world increasingly rely on local freelance journalists to report on international stories and events – not only as fixers and translators but as photographers, video journalists and reporters. What is the impact of this? Are local journalists benefiting? And what about issues such as independence, ethics, trust and safety?

This session, hosted by the Rory Peck Trust, explores the role of local freelancers in international news and current affairs and asks if we can be optimistic about their future in the age of populism, post-truth politics and widespread attacks against journalists.
