Bundesliga Matchday Four in pictures
Hamburg hold Bayern
Zero goals, one point, last place in the table and then Bayern Munich come to town. You wouldn't have wanted to be in Hamburg's shoes going into the Saturday, but HSV rose to the occasion and were rewarded for a spirited display, holding the mighty Bavarians to a goalless draw.
Dortmund downed by Mainz
Four days after spanking Arsenal in the Champions League, Dortmund were brought down to earth by Mainz in the Bundesliga. Adrian Ramos could have paved the way for victory in the first half but couldn't find his range. And an own goal from Matthias Ginter proved more than Dortmund could handle as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat.
Stoppelkamp scores record goal for victorious Paderborn
As a football match, Paderborn's 2-0 home victory over Hanover was of the slow-burner variety, but it was remarkable in a number of respects. The result temporarily took the Bundesliga's minnows to the top of the table, and Moritz Stoppelkamp scored the second from more 83 meters out. That shattered the Bundesliga record for the longest ever goal.
Boateng and referee in the spotlight at Schalke
Kevin-Prince Boateng is Schalke's talisman, but when he's not on his game, he's really not on it. Boateng got schooled on both of Frankfurt's goals in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, and he was sent off after picking up a second yellow card just as the Royal Blues were taking control. The final score: 2-2.
Augsburg come back to thump Bremen
Augsburg are another one of those teams that people always underestimate. On Saturday, FCA went down a goal against Bremen after only three minutes. But they showed great resilience and, aided by a penalty, came back to win 4-2 in front of their home fans.
Hoffenheim overwhelm Stuttgart
Hoffenheim's colors are blue and white. So why did they turn up in garish yellow in Stuttgart? Were they trying to channel Borussia Dortmund? If so, the strategy worked. Markus Gisdol's team secured a relatively easy 2-0 win over the Swabians - a result that took them into second.
Ronny rescues late point for Hertha
Freiburg thought they had three points in the bag at home against an uninspired Hertha Berlin on Friday evening. But set-piece specialist Ronny had other ideas, hammering home a free kick in the dying seconds to secure a 2-2 draw - his second of the game. Freiburg twice threw away the lead.
Wolves put four past Leverkusen
The man of the match in Wolfsburg was Ricardo Rodriguez. Not only did the Swiss left back convert an early penalty after a foul that left Leverkusen a man down. He also scored the goal that put the game beyond reach, volleying home a corner. The final score was 4-1.
Cologne and Gladbach play snoozfest
Never before had a match between these local Rhineland rivals in Cologne ended goalless. Until Sunday that is. Scoring opportunities were few and far between - two to be exact. Otherwise this was a match to forget as soon as possible.
