Bundesliga Matchday Two in pictures
DW takes a look back at Bundesliga's Matchday Two matches, including Schalke versus Bayern, Cologne versus Stuttgart and Dortmund versus Augsburg.
Alonso makes debut in Bayern draw
Schalke versus Bayern isn't a fixture that needs special points of interest, but Saturday's duel had one anyway. Midfielder Xabi Alonso made his debut for the reigning champions only one day after moving from Madrid to Munich. And it was a pretty good first day at the office with Alonso playing 70 minutes as Bayern drew 1-1 in Gelsenkirchen.
Leverkusen overcome youngster's mistake
Tin Jedvaj was disconsolate after scoring an own goal in the first half of Leverkusen's match against Hertha Berlin. But his afternoon would dramatically improve after the break. The Croatian youngster would score the equalizers, and his teammates would add three more goals, as Leverkusen won 4-2
Dortmund turn back Augsburg
In Friday night's match, Dortmund were at their dominating best for eighty minutes, putting three past their overmatched hosts. But football games last ninety minutes, and Marco Reus and Co. flirted with disaster by conceding a pair of late goals. Still, "Woodinho" and his teammates took home a 3-2 victory.
Paderborn cut Hamburg down to size
These two teams will see this match very differently. For Paderborn, a 3-0 victory in Hamburg represents their first-ever win in the Bundesliga - and away to one of Germany's bigger clubs no less. For Hamburg, a 3-0 home less to the Bundesliga's absolute minnows shows that last season's problems have by no means been solved.
Cologne prove too much for Stuttgart
Newly promoted Cologne also pulled off an upset away win against one of the Bundesliga's bigger clubs, outmuscling and outhustling Stuttgart 2-0. Now one of the team's main tasks will be to calm hysteria among the Rhineland's fans after the squad's undefeated start.
Firmino strike only good for a draw for Hoffenheim
22-year-old Brazilian Roberto Firmino is one of the most insanely talented young players in Germany - expect to see him playing in the Champions League in the near future. On Saturday he was playing in the Bundesliga for Hoffenheim versus Bremen, and he scored. But so did Bremen, and the match ended 1-1.
Wolfsburg drop points against Frankfurt
Many pundits in Germany see Wolfsburg as a Champions League candidate, and with its financial muscle the club probably takes a similar view. But if they want to rejoin Europe's footballing elite, the Wolves need to do better than this: a 2-2 draw at home after twice taking the lead against Frankfurt.
Mainz and Hanover fail to score
Lots of things happened in Germany on Sunday afternoon. Voters in Saxony went to the polls. People visited their relatives or did some work around the house. Rain hit southern parts of the country. And Mainz and Hanover for game of football. And didn't manage a goal between them.
Freiburg versus Gladbach also ends goalless
Lots of things happened later on Sunday afternoon in Germany as well. People began to think about what to have for dinner. Others took a walk to enjoy the last rays of sunshine, where it was shining. Others thought about going back to work on Monday. Freiburg played Mönchengladbach. Freiburg got a penalty. Admir Mehmedi missed. Neither team scored. The end.
