Wolfsburg secured a big win over an unlucky Frankfurt on Saturday, after a glorious long-range blast from Naldo from well over 30 meters decided the game. The victory put the Wolves just a point behind Leverkusen in the tussle for the last Champions League spot.
Braunschweig claw another point
Rock-bottom Braunschweig followed up their wonderful mid-week victory over Mainz with an excellent 1-1 draw against fourth place Leverkusen. Ken Reichel's storming volley was cancelled out by a Stefan Kiessling penalty.
Comfortable Mainz
Mainz scored a comfortable - but invaluable - 3-0 win over their direct mid-table rivals Augsburg. Two goals in the first half and one in the 83rd minute were more than enough to see off the Bavarians. The win put Mainz in a Europa League spot.
Freiburg get vital win
Freiburg put some daylight between themselves and the thick of the relegation dogfight, with a vital 3-2 win over rivals Nuremberg. The Sport Club came from behind twice after some questionable set-piece defending in the first half, before getting the winner through Felix Klaus in the 65th minute.
HSV lose again
Hamburg's nightmare season continued in Sunday's first game, with a 3-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Bundesliga "dinosaurs" took the lead on 28 minutes, but gave away a cheap penalty and then failed to find a way back in. The defeat leaves them still in 17th place.
Bremen snatch it
Bremen got a 90th-minute winner to claim a 2-1 victory over Hannover in Sunday's late game - putting Werder all of eight points above the drop zone. Tayfun Korkut's team, which started the second half of the season strongly, languishes on 29 points, an uncomfortable five points from the drop zone.
