European Court of Justice
December 7, 2002Advertisement
Separate from all other European Union courts and national courts, it has no jurisdiction over the interpretation and application of national laws. It mainly rules on disputes
between member states, between the EU and member states, disputes between the institutions of the EU and
disputes between individuals, corporations and the EU. A decision by the European Court of Justice cannot be appealed. The court has served to bring the Union closer
together and has been effective in ensuring member states comply with its decisions. It is not to be confused with the
European Court of Human Rights.
