After months of intense negotiations, German-American aircraft-maker Fairchild-Dornier is to be broken up. One of the world’s three largest manufacturers of short-haul jets, the company ran into trouble in the wake of the Sept 11th attacks last year and declared insolvency in April. Though a viable buyer for the whole company has failed to materialize, its constituent parts are now being sold off, among others to Bern-based RUAG and to American firm AvCraft Aviation LLC.
