Former Stasi officer to marry woman he helped jailThey say true love will always find a way. And it would appear they are right, as a former Stasi interrogator now plans to marry an East German he once helped to put behind bars. Uwe Karlstedt, now 58, fell in love with Regina Kaiser, now 53 during interrogation sessions before she was jailed for her involvement in a pro-democracy movement in Communist East Germany in 1981. Kaiser, who was deported to west Berlin after her prison sentence said "I never stopped thinking about him." She found Karlstedt again in 1997 after stumbling on a list of former stasi employers. "To me," Kaiser said, "it just goes to show that even under the most perverse circumstances, the most normal thing can happen. Two people meet and fall in love."
