Harry Potter for diehard fans
When someone has created an entire world like J. K. Rowling, they usually have a lot of unused material. The digital publisher Pottermore is now bringing out some of these background stories as e-books.
The secrets of the Harry Potter universe revealed
In the three new e-books collecting different short stories, fans will learn new details about different characters and the secrets of the wizarding school Hogwarts. Obviously, whenever "Harry Potter" is written on something, it is destined to high sales: The script for the recently published play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," is now leading international bestseller lists.
Friendship is central to the series
Harry, Hermione and Ron are best friends, and grow up together in the seven parts of the Harry Potter series. Of course frictions, mistrust and unlucky love stories are part of the journey. Even wizards go through puberty - and that made the series so successful.
Battle of good versus evil
Voldemort is the sinister enemy of Harry Potter, the evil figure that has to be defeated. The stories of the two opponents are closely intertwined; the background to the story of Tom Riddle (as Voldemort was known before his conversion) is told throughout the seven books.
Insider knowledge of Hogwarts
Anyone who has ever wondered what the ghosts of Hogwarts actually do throughout the day and what the Sorting Hat is up to when he doesn't have to put children in one of the four schoolhouses will learn more in the new e-book series. "Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide" tells the secrets of the wizarding school where Harry Potter and his friends spend most of their time.
Shedding light on ambivalent characters
The second e-book, "Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists," explores the dark secrets of the people who never clearly positioned themselves as good or evil in the Harry Potter series. This includes Horace Slughorn, who was both an admirer and supporter of Harry's mother Lily, as well as somebody who had surrendered to the charm of Lord Voldemort.
Hogwarts' staff up close
How was Professor Minerva McGonagall (played by Maggie Smith in the movie, here together with the late Alan Rickman) involved in the Second Wizarding War? The answer and more stories on Harry Potter's teachers can be found in the third e-book, called "Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies."
More Potter...
J. K. Rowling may have finished the Harry Potter series, but she is involved in many related projects. This includes the play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which opened in London in July, and the screenplay for the film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which will be released in November 2016.
