The National Syrian Project for Prosthetic Limbs is located in the Syrian-Turkish border town of Reyhanli in Turkey. It provides artificial limbs for injured Syrians who manage to get across the border.
Started in April 2013 by Syrian doctors, the prosthetics center is funded by non-profit aid organizations. Most of the technicians at the center have learned on the job. They work with locally-sourced materials, making the prosthetic limbs more affordable.
The center doesn't just help civilians. It also occasionally provides new limbs to injured rebel fighters engaged in ongoing battles with the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
