Hollywood accolades
January 6, 2015"Birdman," a satire of the entertainment industry, and "Boyhood," an independent coming-of-age drama, have been tallying up nominations as Hollywood's awards season kicks into gear. They are both favorites for the Golden Globes, which are to be handed out this coming Sunday, and were nominated Monday for the Producers Guild Award, along with a number of smaller films.
Clint Eastwood's Iraq War drama "American Sniper" also made the list, as did the two British biopics that also turned up among the Golden Globe nominees: "The Imitation Game," a thriller about cryptanalyst Alan Turing, and "The Theory of Everything," a biography of Stephen Hawking. Ben Affleck's "Gone Girl" and offbeat comedy "The Grand Budapest Hotel" also received a nod from the Producers Guild.
Angelina Jolie's epic World War II survival story "Unbroken" and civil rights drama "Selma," however, did not receive PGA nominations. Both had been expected to make the list.
The Producers Guild Award, presented on January 24, follows on the heels of the Golden Globes, while movie fans have to hold out to February 22 for the Oscars.
